Self Care. Self Love. Self Acceptance

"If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken yourself. If you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative within yourself. Truly the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self transformation" Lao Tzu

I was one of those kids that most parents find annoying, the "but why" and then when either of my parents answered the question I would start again. This is self discovery in its most simplist form. Children are sponges for information and form the majority of their beliefs by age 7 based on what they see and hear from the people around them and their environment.

For the first six years of a child’s life, the conscious part of the brain is not primarily functioning. The brain is functioning at a very low EEG level, called theta. A child is observing the environment just like a television camera, recording everything, bypassing consciousness—which isn’t working yet—and going straight into the subconscious. The child uses its parents as the teachers to fill in the data in the subconscious mind. To really become a parent, you must observe your own negative behaviors and change some of the original behaviors that you learned from your parents.- Biology of Belief - Bruce Lipton

I remember at school that if you were proud of your achievements or excelled in something or just liked who you were the response mostly was "oh you love yourself!" as if this were a bad thing? When and how did we get this so wrong? We should be encouraging children to love who they are, to listen with their hearts and explore all the many questions of life, to develop their sense of curiousity and connection to each other and the planet.

I have now spent the majority of my adult life learning to love myself unashamedly and whole heartedly. How have I done this? Questioning behavioural patterns in my life, where have they come from? What triggers me emotionally and why? Learning to feel my emotions and not be afraid of them or let them overwhelm me, this has been hard because emotions are powerful and sometimes all consuming but its within them that we learn about our true nature, it is our body talking to us, sometimes screaming to be heard. We just need to stop, breathe and listen from the heart because any answers you are seeking in life whether it be what career should I follow, who should I give my heart to, why is my body in pain? You already know the answer but you are perhaps just not listening.

This is where personnally for me meditation has been a gift. How can we listen intitutively when life moves so fast? Slow down, be present, you dont need to be a zen monk to meditate or practice mindfulness and if you are reading this thinking oh I cant meditate, I tried it once and it didnt work! Read the paragraph below about re programming belief patterns, change your thinking and your life will change.

Ninety-five percent of your life is a printout of your subconscious. So, all you have to do is just look at your current life, see what works and understand the things that work do so because of beliefs in your subconscious that encourage them. On the other hand, the things you struggle with are there not because the universe doesn’t want you to have them, but because you have programs of limitation. Therefore, if you want to correct the programming in your life, you don’t have to do a wholesale rebuilding of the subconscious, you just have to look and see the things you are struggling with. If you are struggling, it almost inevitably implies you have a program that says you can’t go there. You have to change that specific program; you don’t have to wipe the slate clean. - Biology of Belief - Bruce lipton

Loving yourself is not the ego, it is what your soul desires to thrive in this world. So ask yourself what can I do to love myself that little bit more? Can you slow down and nuture yourself, without guilt or judgement, take a walk in nature, practice yoga, meditate, buy yourself some flowers. Whatever it is know that....
